David S This is great science fiction in a cheesy, late 50's kind of way. The actors are taking the script seriously and the story isn't too bad. The science is really laughable. I think people that like a classic B movie will like it. Unintentionally funny in parts. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review SICKS6SIX The script could not be better, the acting is outstanding, the special effects are literally out of this world, at times it's like it was just made yesterday and not over 50 years ago, the space scenes are as if they've just been captured by the Hubble telescope, this is possibly the best space science fiction motion picture ever made, anyone who has not given this 100% is probably a space monster. . . Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/21/22 Full Review Audience Member Some of the comments are quite harsh. I'd like to point out a few items. First, yes, it's a B movie, yes, it's a bit cheesy, but it's also very compelling. Secondly, I've seen some modern films much worse than this. Lastly, Considering the obvious low budget, the acting was good and the plot quite interesting. Look at each film independently of others and avoid comparison. I'm sure if they had a real budget, this might have been a sci-fi classic. Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Super low budget science fiction story about astronauts in the distant future of 1980 exploring the vast reaches of space and discovering a mysterious new plant. On that planet they find miniature people, sexy ladies, and a giant monster (played by Richard "Jaws" Kiel in his feature film debut). It's a pretty dumb story with terrible production values, so this film is only watchable as a so-bad-it's-good kind of movie, although 7' 2" Richard Kiel is always entertaining, even under heavy make-up, so that's added entertainment value if you're a fan. Rated 1.5/5 Stars • Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review ryan s 1/5. The Phantom Planet is a pretty boring movie. The only noteworthiness aspect of it is the miniatures used in the space travel scenes, which are pretty adorable. The rest of the movie is a snooze-fest. Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Altough not really a classic b-movie, nor a "so-bad-it's-good" type of movie, this very 50's looking sci-fi movie from 1961 is worthy of your attention. From time to time it can drag a bit but also, from time to time, it can surprise you. And yes it does have some "so-bad-it's-good" moments.
